The Monarch
I know I've been kind of quiet lately. I guess I didn't feel like what is going on in my life at the moment would be all that interesting to anyone. I also didn't have a passionate rant to go off on either. Now it's been almost a month and I feel like I should write something, anything.
Let's see...a couple of weeks ago I spent the day with my Aunt and Uncle. They took me out on their new boat Monarch. It's much bigger than Gamache. Gamache is a shark and Monarch is a Catalina. It was a beautiful day for a cruise on the lake. Sunny with bright blue skies. It was great.
Back over the September long week-end my friends and I had made a day trip to this beach I used to swim at when I was a kid. It was in the County and I had not been there since I was 13 or 14 I think. It was just as beautiful as I remember it. The nice thing was the weather was fantastic and there was hardly anyone on the beach. I guess all the people were at their own cottages. It was so nice just sitting out there and playing in the lake all day. I guess you could say we've been blessed with good weather on the week-ends.

Southbrook Winery
We stopped at three wineries: FrogPondFarm, Hillebrand and Southbrook. I bought the wine at Southbrook. I got a bottle of their ice wine which I'm saving for a special occasion and two bottles of their framboise d'or.
After that we went for dinner at the Olde Angel Inn. Now that is a cool pub if I ever saw one. According to the plaque outside it's front door it is the oldest inn in Upper Canada. It was rebuilt on the foundations of an inn that burned
to the ground during the war of 1812. According to this plaque the British Flag must hang above the door at all times otherwise strange things happen inside the Inn. The place has quite a history. It's quite neat inside too.
A scene from The Tomorrow People
I suppose the reason I've been watching them is nostalgia for a time I'll never know. What I mean by that is that I was born in the 70s so it's not like I would remember what it was like then. This show is like a timecapsule for a time I didn't get to experience. It's also a piece of my early teenage years. So I guess that makes me more forgiving of its flaws.
The biggest issue I could find with the series so far is it's lack of follow-through. The story ideas are good but they kind of don't follow them through to conclusion. There is also a huge lack of character development. The later season is better so far. We'll see how the last couple of seasons fare.
I've found that by watching the TV shows I loved as a kid I'm starting to see how badly written or produced a lot of them were. Of course as a kid you don't notice these things but as an adult they are really hard to ignore. I'm not sure how this makes me feel about them now. Does this mean that all the shows I watch now will one-day look as bad as these? Does nothing age well when it comes to TV and Movies?
